Meditating on the plane is an interesting and challenging experience… little rustlings and rattlings here and there, buzzes of conversations flying about. Also the posture is quite awkward

Brad, over at Hardcore Zen, wrote last week about sitting in a chair.

“Zazen is essentially a balance pose. In Yoga, there are several of these. Probably the most well-known is the tree pose”

Hardcore Zen

When I was having knee problems a few months ago, sitting in a chair was all that I could manage. It just didn’t feel quite right. A few weeks later, getting back to the cushion felt like coming home. Brad’s idea of balance was a fresh view.

Ruth – I like what you said about “… no-one being wrong or right but an enquiring mind based in loving kindness”

Rumi’s poem speaks of it as well

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

Janice, how good to hear from you. Thought about you a lot.

That's a really beautiful quote from Rumi, especially beautiful amongst so many...

I don't feel so grounded or focused in a chair, but I expect I could get used to it if one day I'm no longer able to kneel; have never been able to sit cross-legged - my knees are way up in the air and distinctly UNbalanced. As for tree pose: ah, oh dear, my bugbear, a real test of my capacity to lay aside self-criticism - I've been known to end in a tearful red-faced heap on the floor.

Barbara, what you wrote was very moving. Lots of love to you.
