I'm back in NH after spending about a week in Ohio with my folks. I didn't spend any "serious cushion time" while I was there (I never do!), but I did take care to follow my breath before falling asleep at night, and then there was all the driving meditation to & fro. :-)
oh beth i feel for you. wonderful that you could be there. Being there with your father in such a painful transitional moment is all you can do and it sounds like you do your utmost to be there as fully as you can. No-one can ask for more and it isn't about long or short.
i have just come back from a wonderful writing retreat where i was up at 6 every morning meditating before hours and reams of writing. i feel so full and inspired. one of the loveliest things for me was writing poetry again which is in itself such a meditation - being fully present to the object and looking at it from all sides. an act of love if ever there was one.
when i was living in america thanksgiving was my favourite festival. for me the religious ones are more to do with bach and the passions, but this one - to give thanks for the harvest - is so humbling and moving. i miss the celebration.
