... and I am very very happy too, Dale. Just wonderful. Not sure if you are moving as well or is it just a general chucking out? My rule of thumb for getting rid of stuff these past few months has been : Don't take anything with you that you will throw out at the other end.
Stray: the doors are staying unpainted, I've left it too late. But a friend is coming over tomorrow morning as support when the new carpet is fitted ...
Jean: have a wonderful retreat ....
And I sat this morning. Silence, a little traffic and the sounds of the builders working on the house over the road. Oddly soothing. Very glad to be doing this again and this little group has been so helpful.
Stray, that story really was so funny. I'm glad you can laugh as well as grieving and I wish you the best with all that you've been having to deal with. The anger feels very familiar to me.
Mary, Jean - I'm heading for my Vermont home and another 10 days of cleaning-out and fixing-up. I dread it. And before that, two days this weekend at my father's. On Sunday at 4:00 we are going to bury my mother's ashes and have a small ceremony for the family at the gravesite. It's a lot of driving and it won't be easy to re-enter the world of my father's grief and - so far - inability to really make changes, but I got a good night's sleep tonight and am hoping that will help sustain me and help me help him. Will be checking back here but probably not writign much until Tuesday or so.
Dale and Mary and Jean wrote yesterday about getting rid of stuff. Me too, this is an ongoing project for me. Every two or three months, I start to feel weighted down with material possessions … the clutter invades my home and my mind
Oh, the clothes I’ve kept because I might wear them again ... not likely. They’ll go to the Community Thrift Shop. And now I’ve got the ‘bug’ again to weed out the bookshelves.
I send the books out into the wild via Book Crossing. I may have mentioned this before. There are 3.5 million books registered by 500 thousand members traveling through 90 countries. It's free ... have a look BookCrossing
Beth: thoughts and prayers with you over this weekend, especially on Sunday. And for the 10 days afterwards.
Janice: Thanks very much for the link, will follow it up. Yes, there is a link between physical and mental/emotional/spiritual clutter imo. I've got rid of the obvious *junk*. What's left is borderline stuff which is harder to decide on .. "when in doubt throw it out" needs to be my motto I think.
