good morning
Still here, still sitting, walking and practicing yoga.

We’re experiencing a heat wave this week and we’re not used to it here on our island paradise. I’ve been walking later in the evening when it’s cool and lovely … noticed for the first time last night that the long summer days are beginning to shorten … for a long time it’s been still light at 10 o’clock.

In Zen Buddhism, we venerate the Three Treasures – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. Walking home last night, I realized I have another, more personal, set of three treasures – meditation, walking and yoga.

I’ve had a rough couple weeks, and these words keep coming into my head, written by someone much wiser than I:

Pain and discomfort are sometimes inevitable – suffering is optional

and I re-read Mary Oliver’s Wild Geese.

Lots of love to both of you.

Still sitting, walking and doing yoga too, though a bit less than I'd like right now with rather too much work and heat.

Hello, everyone. Janice, I love this idea of having one's own self-selected Three Treasures...and meditation, walking, and yoga are about as great a "mindfulness tripod" as you can get. Very stable! :-)

I haven't been sitting as I'd like, but I've been walking a lot, and reading, and trying to relax & enjoy the summer. It's a difficult balance since I associate being at my laptop & online with "work," but my laptop is also my connection with friends, the support of this & other online communities, etc.

So pardon my occasional silences here...I'm trying to occasionally visit The Real World... :-)

Love to all, too.

I didn't get the admin assignment, never do when there's an interview. I think the part at where I began to think of bolting was when they asked repeated questions about how I would handle problems with upper management, and the upper management woman I would be working for sitting right there looking exceedingly formidable. I gave the gift at the end, it wasn't opened, I didn't receive a thanks. What I mostly did at home last night was offer prayers of support and fortitude to whoever landed the assignment. I would say there's a minor minefield of expectations and attitudes there... This was at the admin level of the Midwifery programs in Ontario, and not with actual midwives themselves. Government entirely another kettle of, oh, now I must rush off and purify my thoughts!

I did send a letter and resume off to a local tutoring service, which I've been putting off.

If I could teach without grading students it would be ideal (why I like presenting at conferences so much); tutoring is a way of in-depth teaching that is helping the student ultimately to achieve their dreams, and I do love it.

Right, purify, perhaps with a walking meditation today, it's glorious outside. (Already did my 20 min sitting one today.)

And then the meditation of painting... does anyone else find artwork a special kind of meditation?

My current favourite saying is from Deeshan's meditation tip of the day (meditationtip@yahoogroups.com), most quotes in my opinion are a bit airheaded and not grounded in the body and the earth, but sometimes...

"If you know your own worth, what need you care about the acceptance or rejection of others?" Unknown

Off to bed, but just checking in, sending love to all and repairing my commitment ... I've been doing my minimum only recently but want to give myself the benefit of doing longer sessions.

Janice: Sorry things have been rough. I hope life gets smoother for you .....

Brenda: When I don't land a job lI have learned always to say thank you too. Often I have found out later that I had a lucky escape. The tutoring sounds good ...

I loathe grading, Brenda, both practically and as a matter of conviction, but I wouldn't let that stop me from teaching if I wanted to teach!

Sorry you didn't get the job -- sort of, it sounds like you're well out of it, really -- & wishing you luck with your other endeavors!
