Good morning all. Chanted and meditated this morning, competely butterfly-minded throughout but at least I did it.

Udge/Brenda: thanks for posting the recent articles. (And I MUST earn how to post links in comments).

Janice: I was given a personal mantra about 15 years ago by a spiritual mentor, and that seems to work for me. Before joining this group I didn't meditate, just chanted and prayed at the end. Now I sometimes just meditate silently but at the moment I am chanting at the beginning of the sessions then I sit afterwards.

Working with the voice and mantra seems to clear a space for me to be able to sit, particularly when I am anxious. At some point I would like to explore the whole area of spiritual work through the voice further and I was very interested to read what you do ...

All for now, must run, will post in the next few days on the resistance theme.

Love to all.

Good morning, everyone.

Although I didn't comment here yesterday, I did do my before bedtime meditation, so all's well there. I haven't gotten to any morning meditation, but that's okay as long as I do the evening sit.

I've also been trying (?) to spend less time glued to my laptop, which is why I haven't commented as much here. Between work & spring, there are so many offline distractions! :-)

At this incredibly un-busy reception in a downtown office building- ideal, really, for the writer. Jobs like these often force me to write, stuck at a desk all day with full computer access, nothing to do but answer a not-busy switchboard, say hi and/or smile at the beautiful, friendly people who work here. But inspiration, of course, isn't a willing participant in places like these, airless, windowless, in skirt and top where sitting in semi-lotus isn't an option, where capitalism reeks (oh sorry, but it does, this is a commercial insurance company & filthy rich it is). The days themselves are an interesting meditation for which I get, gratefully, paid.

Last night I went way out to the West end for a tutoring session after work, and on the way I 'napped,' arriving feeling as tired as when I got on the subway. Really, only real meditation works. On the way back I 'meditated' - tuned in silently, focused my concentration at the '3rd eye' spot, eyes slightly open on the tip of my nose, breath slowed right down, intoning a silent, simple mantra... for maybe 20 minutes until I got to the stop where I'd pick up a few groceries before continuing on the journey home.

What a difference.

When I held my breath, and released the meditation, and opened my eyes it was like a new world, a glimmer to everything, I was refreshed to a far greater extent than the simple nodding nap had given me.

This is what I do daily, there's nothing stunning about it, it's ordinary, just another thought pattern, and not even necessarily the central one, but it's essential.

I don't take daily vitamin pills, too hard on my kidneys sometimes I think, but try to eat a range of veggies and fruit every day.

Meditation's like that. And it's best when it's not pre-packaged but raw, juicy, full of texture and taste, and oh so good for you.

My comments here are sooo firken long! Sorry about that!

To do links: Replace left or right brackets with the 'less than' and 'greater than' signs, the ones sharing the keys for the comma and the period.

(a href="url here no spaces must be between quotation marks")name you want to call the link(/a)

Mary, to make a link you have to put a tag (a piece of code) before and after the address you are wanting to link to. The tags always appear in brackets < >. So, for example, to make a link to my blog you would type in the following (but eliminate ALL spaces!!):
< a href = "http://findmeabluebird.blogspot.com" > findmeabluebird < /a >

I put spaces in simply to keep the code from actually *working*! But if you copied what I just typed, and took out all the spaces, it would publish as simply the word findmeabluebird with a line under it, as a live link. You can do that with any address, simply inserting the full http address into where the quotation marks are, and then choosing whatever word you wish to represent the link to go in between the two tags that appear in brackets.

MB, surely the more the merrier! Blogger's buggy with comments again, I left the same one twice at your site before either showed up!

In creating an active link, there is one space, though, between the "a" and the "href" (a href="url")name (/a)

(remembering to use the < and the > instead of brackets)

Yes, Brenda, you are absolutely right! I came back to say "Oops, there should be ONE space, between a and href in the first part of the tag... but that's the only space." Sigh. Sorry!

Brenda, the more the merrier? Shall we just have a party?!

MB/Brenda: thank you both! Really kind of you to answer my plaintive little comment. I'm going to print off this page and study what you have written ...

Party? Can I come?

Good evening, everyone...

I just got home from a wonderful yoga class, so I'm feeling blissed & tranquil. And this morning I walked Reggie at Goose Pond, where I stopped for a mini-meditation on a rock overlooking the sunny water.

Tomorrow will be busy, but today was restful: the yin/yang of life! :-)
