Hi Lorianne. Yes, I'm here! Been having a break and off line for a couple of days. Back, and at work, today. Hard day today. We have this big event this evening in celebration of the work of my boss who died in July. When it's going to be a hard day, I'm always especially glad to start it by sitting for a few minutes.
Good morning! I am here as well. Just got through sitting with an amazingly antic monkey mind. It's hard to keep from reproaching myself for being so distracted, but all of you have helped me be more gentle with myself and more persistent about doing this regularly.
goobermonkey, I also would like to thank you for your comment the other day about "neither right nor wrong." It is very helpful when someone provides a different framework for thinking about an event or a concept.
I have not been meditating recently, but find myself still tucking in breaths here and there. In the middle of the night, a moment's break at work. I can relate to Bitterroot's amazingly antic monkey mind!
Jean, I've been thinking of you & your work colleagues all day today. I hope today's event brings a bit of healing & closure along with the pain.
Bitterroot & others, this weekend while I was on retreat in Rhode Island, one of the Zen Masters in my school mentioned how scattered she was during one of the meditation sessions. I had to smile at the realization that EVERYONE has monkey mind, even Zen Masters who have been practicing for decades!
It's not a matter of how much your mind wanders; it's a matter of how often you (gently) bring it back to awareness.

Ah, Jean, thinking of you.

Lorianne, you can't imagine how reassuring it is to hear about Zen masters being distracted! This apparently is fundamental to the human condition.
