Today is my 'day 7'. I sat both of the last two nights...even remembering to sit early in the evening on Friday, when I knew I would be home late after dinner with a friend. I'm headed off for a swim at Walden Pond this morning (which has been spectacular this weekend)...thanks for being here - turns out that checking in on others' daily reports and making my own is extremely supportive for my practice. Much metta to all.
Hey Arthur … glad you’re still here … I’m not doing any ‘heroic’ sitting either – regularly 20-25 minutes, and that’s enough for me. Your rocking chair sounds mighty good, and I wish I had one … I’d surely use it
Haven’t been keeping up with any heroic bowing either, Lorianne. I stopped counting prostrations and released my goal of reaching 108 … just doing as many as I can and then a few standing bows. Seems ok. I guess the image of 108 prostrations is just a fond memory. And a silly coincidence occurred to me yesterday … 108 pounds is my ideal weight!! I’ll probably not see that one again either.
After Dave mentioned consistency last week, I decided to commit to a specific time and try to keep to that. At my home temple in Hawaii, they sit each morning at 5:30 … that’s 8:30 here. Perfect. I can sit with all my friends and teachers and feel their presence. My earliest shift at work doesn’t start until 11, so lots of time for sitting, coffee and yoga.
Dave, I dreamt of you last night, cycling across the Canadian prairies … you looked very happy. Where do you cycle in winter, or do you? I’m quite familiar with winter there, having living in Calgary for five years and visited Winnipeg often.
Hi all! Greetings from the Oregon Coast. A little diner here in Newport actually has wifi, so here I am. Despite the grim and possibly life-threatening food :-)
Sat a long time last night, and then 20 minutes in the afternoon: taking advantage of this vacation to sit whenever the fancy takes me. Lots of love to you all. It's beautiful here, huge empty beaches, sixty degrees, mist rolling in from the ocean, which clears occasionally to show blue skies. Wish you were here.
hello. back from car/'road trip' meditation. method. turn off music, pay attention to oncoming traffic and the edges of the road. this can be like a zendo spot on the wall. breathe. repeat breathing. enjoy thoughts as they emerge and dissapate.
oh janice. how i wish that i had been cycling. cycling across the prairies has always been a dream/plan of mine. for now i make note of routes and immerse myself in sympathtic joy for those touring cyclists i see when i am on the road.
alas this trip was work related. i did however rack a bike to the top of my car for some rides in various locations.
i do cycle in winter. i have a winter bike. [condensation from the cold to warm trasitions and salt from the roads can really beat up a bike.] and i ride on a stationary indoor trainer gizmo. park bike in front of t.v. pop in a dvd. voila. a poor substitute, however, for cycling and a far, far cry from the joy of x-c skiing! thus i can actually count on one hand the number of times i have used the indoor gizmo over the previous two winters.
Hey there, everyone. And hello to Dale in his diner!!!
Janice, I haven't been doing bows since it got hot/I got sick last week. So that means I'll be starting all over again tomorrow morning, trying to get back into bowing shape again/still.
(And yeah, I'd love to see the scale at 108 again...sheesh!)
Today is sunny & mild, so I walked Reggie at Goose Pond early, before too many walkers were out. In addition to the usual meditative walking, I sat for a short while on "my" sitting stone while two song sparrows clucked remonstratively at me & Reggie pestered to be petted.
Life is a little up and down right now, physically and generally, and it's a gift to have this site to remind me to take time daily to breathe and know that I am part of a whole.
I have been doing a lot of "doing" type meditation - dog walking in the forest, and yesterday I chopped and sawed a lot of wood.

It's not a bad way to meditate, all in all.

damn, damn, damn ... will I never learn ... tried to send a URL, but can't make it work
here is the rest of it
Today is the 61st Anniversary of Hiroshima … I’m remembering today in my prayers and I hope you will too.
This is a page I put in my journal last year … there is a beautiful poem written by my friend in India, but I spelled her name wrong.
....
May peace prevail on earth
Hello and hugs to all (& waving to you, Dale, in the ocean mist)~
Watched Kurosawa's, Rhapsody in August last night, Nagasaki still so close...
Stunning film, I don't care what the critics said, really he is a master. The Japanese know what the atomic bomb does, of all peoples on earth.
Dale, I wish I were there, too! You sound like you are having a grand time.
Peace to all.
Hey all, wow, day 13 already.

Wishing you all well,
