Arthur, meditation I can do. But it took two years of daily guilt to do my tax returns... ah, sigh.
Many of the wonderful fluttering energies of rainbow lights that dance through 100 Days speak of renewing commitment to daily meditation, or whatever can be easily managed.
That's why Dale created this site... so we can commiserate, support each other, share.
I understand I'm a bit of a nutco, so you mustn't mind me. A day of mostly meditation like I had recently is in lieu of being able to afford to go on retreat and is my form of vacation... :) :grins:
The intent to do something even in law is considered an action. They say the hypothalamus doesn't know the difference between the thinking of doing and the doing, that appropriate hormones are secreted in either the imagined or the real scenario.
So to think of meditation increases alpha brain waves. Probably instantaneously.
Here's a very simple and nice article on meditation.
Go on, think about meditation see if your breath isn't already deepening and slowing down and if your mind isn't already flowering into a blissful state of inner healing!
I've been doing so well, remembering to take time and sit everyday. I completely forgot until bedtime last night, so I stretched out and did corpse pose until I fell asleep.
At the risk of over-commenting today, yes, Stray, breathing is the most basic meditation and the one that all the other types of meditation come down to.
If you slow your breathing from the 15-20 breaths per minute that's normal to 5-8 breaths per minute, the parasympathetic nervous system will kick in.
The sympathetic nervous system with its adrenaline-based response to the world ravages the body if left unchecked. The parasympathetic system heals, restores.
It can be done through the breath alone, and remembering to breath deeply and slowly does wonders at any time.
When you think the word, meditation, doesn't your breath begin to slow down and your mind begin to relax? When you say to yourself, I must meditate, doesn't it already happen? It does; I know it does.
Dave, hi! And welcome. Cycling the long distances that you do is certainly meditation. While it's Saturday and everyone is mostly busy, you'll see what a lively group this is and how wonderfully you'll contribute to our discussions.
Brenda, you raise an interesting point, so I did a little observation of myself. If I think "I want to meditate," or "I'm going to meditate," or "I like meditating" or something positive along those lines, yes, I'm already headed in that direction. If, however, my thoughts run to "I should be meditating and I'm not," or "I don't meditate enough," or "Tut, tut, I did not meditate," then I'm nowhere nearer to meditation in terms of what my body feels like — in fact, I think I'm pushing away from it. So... thanks for helping me to see this!
Brenda, thanks for all the commentary. It's useful to hear all this. I've had a mindfulness clock on my computer at work, and had been taking a minute at the top of the hour to just breathe, but somehow that didn't seem like "enough". You've changed my thinking and I'll go back to that practice.

I love that Brenda! If simply thinking about meditating is in effect some small act of doing it .. I've done a load today.
Can't focus on much more than breathing yet ... but that counts doesn't it?

That goes for everyone new too!
