Although I haven't yet sat, this morning started auspiciously: I awoke with no headache or sore throat, it was raining, and my temperature-controlled window fan had turned off for the first time in days. It looks like this recent heat wave is over, at least for now.
Glad you're feeling better, Lorianne. I like the jelly fish image, too. The beginning of a meditation session for me is also as if suspended in water, but more seaweedy, interlaced thoughts & feelings, entangled... though there must be a moment when it all relaxes and releases outwards...
Such feelings of love were with me for a time last night as I meditated. Brenda, I've just read your post from yesterday and relate...I look at my practice as a clearing out, making space for whatever will come after I leave the cushion. Sometimes voices and events from my day (or from my dreams when I meditate in the morning) come to me as nearly solid creatures, at other times they buzz and hum in the background. Sometimes while sitting I find stillness or quiet, sometimes not. But almost always, I rise afterward, feeling like there is more space in the world.
Keeping the commitment but I sit no longer then 15-20 minutes. Somehow I think I should sit for 30 minutes but I am being kind to myself. That is harder then being a hero. Some issues with back and neck pain. Sometimes I sit in my rocking chair. Now that is being kind!
No the guys haven't all left town. I am here in New England where, as Lorianne has pointed out, the heat has lifted. Something to celebrate.
Gosh, I don't know - just arrived back in Vermont and am drenched from the humidity. Maybe when we get some air moving through our house it will be better. Lorianne, I'm SOO glad you're feeling better today!
I love the jelly fish too!!! Glad the heat has dropped for you too! It's a real sense of celebration here.
Arthur I often sit 10 minutes. Lots of folk try for three at least, so you're in good company. I recently met a man who said sitting for less than 40 minutes wasn't worth it. I have to disagree.
I went to the pool thismorning for my replacement sit, knowing that was the time I would have in the day. The pool was empty because of the sudden drop in temperature, wind and black clouds, and I took my backstroke very mindfully, feeling like I was inside the clouds. Forty minutes as good as any cushion I'd say. And another kind of fish perhaps?.
