Well, I've learned the secret to being the first to post the day from the Eastern timezone: get up at 3:30 am! (ugh...)
I'm getting ready to head off to Ohio (and from there to Chicago) for spring break, which means today I'll be doing lots of driving meditation! I'll check in here occasionally as I'm able over the next week.
Lorianne, have a good trip (I love the concept of Spring Break which is unknown here - shall I just take one anyway? :>))
Sat last night, listening to the Tibetan bowls... with my partner, A. in the next room clearing his throat every three minutes :0 ... I was just sitting with this huge irritation when, out of the blue, I had a coughing fit. Do you think that was a lesson from a higher place? Anna.
Feeling incredibly grateful for the supportive voices I've heard this week, here and elsewhere. We are in this world essentially alone, yet we do need others.
anna and dale and lorianne spoke yesterday about breathing … I’ve been a belly breather for as long as I can remember … on and off the cushion …here is a link to some pictures showing posture and an animated diagram showing good belly breathing … from Zen Mountain Monastery in New York
I have a Mindfulness Bell installed on my computer … it came to me from James over at the Buddhist Blog … he says
"When ever it sounds I always stop my typing or surfing, close my eyes, breath deeply and recite the following:
'Body, space and mind. I send my heart along with the sound of this bell. May the hearers (including myself) awaken from their forgetfulness and transcend the path of anxiety and fear.'
I then go on to say, 'I listen, I listen. The sound of this bell brings me back to my true home.'"
The bell can be set to sound at different intervals and with different sounds, and you can find it here:
Bon voyage, Lorianne, and best wishes to everyone for a good weekend. We just returned to Montréal and are heading to bed - I am beat, but glad to be back here. First, though, I've got to check out that mindfulness bell...
Lorianne, you're probably long gone, but have a great trip!
Janice, how intriguing, a Mindfullness Bell, it sounds beautiful, but I have a Mac too...
Welcome home, Beth! Hey I don't know where you live, and it's not here, but welcome!
Besides relationships in my life, which is where I've started with the loving-kindness meditation, I've also, out of loving kindness to myself, been radiating some good ol' unconditional love towards my novella. And I've pasted all 100 pages of it into a single private post at a free site at Xanga with the new wide format text editor and it's all there and all fine. That way I can work on it from anywhere. Just have to remember to keep saving it to a Word file too. What was the point of this?
We need to remember ourselves, too. And treat ourselves as we would treat any other senient being.
To love ourselves in the ways of giving to ourselves to make us the happiest and most loving to others.
I would be happy to finish that book. Something about allowing ourselves to do what we need to do to be happy...?
Probably I don't make any sense at all...
Wishing you all progress in the projects that would make you happiest to complete too!

Brenda - that makes perfect sense to me. Thanks for the reminder.
Anna.
