Saved last night by having a Buddhist spouse, who omze'd & sat with me for five minutes before lights-out.

I'm interested in whether/how much you sit together at home. But this is about you not Martha, so quite understand if she doesn't want her practice shared here.

What's omzed?

Only 10 minutes again this morning. But I'm really grateful and happy just to be doing that.

John, hi! How are you feeling after the sesshin? I was quite fragile and disoriented for a while after mine in August (but in a good way).

Martha usually sits in the morning, first thing -- doesn't even get out of bed. So we seldom sit together, except on Sunday evenings at KCC. She's been practicing longer than I have -- some twenty years, probably.

The omze (I seem to be seeing it spelled umze more often, nowadays) is the chant-leader and timekeeper. It's actually a very important office in a Tibetan monastery, a sort of second-in-command to the abbot, in Western centers it's just used loosely to mean the guy who watches the clock and starts off the aspiration and dedication prayers -- at our center the task rotates through a dozen or so people.

Hey, guys. I'm coming to the party late...but boy, do I need this. I've been having one helluva time getting back into a meditation routine after having fallen off the wagon when school started. (The beginning of a semester always wrecks my schedule...you'd think I'd get used to it after a while.)

I usually meditate in the morning (when I'm doing it, that is!) But I like this idea of meditating a bit before bed. I just might have to try that tonight.

I sat this morning. Not sat in a meditation sense but I was seated on a chair. Still felt unwell, so I lit my candle, and my incense, and sat quietly for 10 minutes. And it was OK.

I'm on board, too, Dale. Thank you for doing this - I need to do it too and am grateful to have company and encouragement. I've sat for 10-15 minutes the past three days, usually around now - late afternoon, or just before sunset, is the best time for me, but I also sit for a few minutes every morning before getting up. That I've kept up over the years fairly well, but the longer sitting in the afternoon has really fallen apart.

Ok, need to fess up. The wife needed my attention last night so I didn't get to sit.

Jean: I'm actually doing pretty well after sesshin. I'm actually excited about going back in October and trying to make a commitment to make the weekend every month (as long as gas prices don't go too much higher!).

Just finished a 35 minute sitting tonight. If I didn't have this 100 days group I don't think I would have sat. Thanks everyone for your collective support.

It felt good to sit. The familiar pain in my left leg came back again with what I guess was about 5 or 10 minutes left in the period. I actually didn't actively push it away this time. I sort of just held it tenderly.

Again, thanks for the support here!!

Mary, I hope you feel better soon. Take good care of yourself.

Okay, I sat for about 5 minutes in bed last night...it felt like cheating, but it was something.

I think I need to lower my standards. Somehow I've come to see *formal* practice as being the end-all & be-all, when what I need to be doing is sitting however & whenever I can.

I'm working on it. :-)
