Breathing in the middle of the night... smoke and gratitude... a heady combination.
Mary and Dale, I'm happy to see you both back here. You were missed, each in your own way!
And apparently I've got some catching up to do on the photo/poem marathon! It's been a crazy week. But if Jean's fabulous combos are any indication, it's well worth a visit.
Hard to believe it's still so hot with you, as the heat wave here has been followed by a cool, damp August and localised storms and flooding. It must be hard to bear after all these weeks.
The illustrated poem marathon got off to quite a slow start, so it would be wonderful if someone like you got involved, mb. Check out Janice's wonderful Zen painting (link from my blog posts to entries so far).
Just so glad to be sitting every day - the one space of clarity while life feels like wading through treacle.
My routine was all out of whack this morning and I forgot to make time to sit ... and then had the most focussed reminder when, an hour or two ago, I went to B&Q (a big DIY store) to buy a spade (to shovel chicken shit) and also purchasing a spade were three buddhist monks in full orange robes!
I desperately wanted to take a photo - the branding for the B&Q store is so wonderfully bright orange too ... but I restrained myself.
I mindfully swept and shoveled soiled woodchips on my return. Though not too much breathing was going on :)
Jean, it's high desert territory I live in, hot and dry. But the nights are cooling noticeably now which makes it all much more bearable. It's the smoke that is the worst right now. Something like 18 fires now burning in various places around the state. High winds and dry air don't help. The smoke does, I was remarking last night, make for gorgeous sunsets! I'll take my beauty where I can find it!
I will go look at the illustrated poem marathon, thanks.
Stray, I love your story about the store. Surely there was breathing going on while shoveling, though! Deep breathing, I should think! ;-)

Love to all.
