Hello day nine, hello 100-dayers. Thanks to Jean for the tip that another hundred days are underway. This is a much-needed nudge to recommence my meditation. I sit today thirty minutes with a dog-hot-water-bottle on the lap.
qb! how lovely, welcome! Tsk, I dunno about the dog on your lap... did she keep still? If you scroll back you'll find several discussions of dealing with pets - I think myself that they're attracted to the focused energy of meditation or something :-)
Devon, hope you feel better. Take good care of yourself.
Sat 50 minutes last night (at the center -- that's peer pressure, not discipline, making me sit so long :->) & did 14 accumulations.
Once again finding that what ngondro practice seems to evoke in me is ferocity. I have no idea why, but it's a quality otherwise sadly absent from my mild and (reportedly) laid-back character, so it's very welcome.
Actually I wrote my comment (in great excitement) before I sat. The dog refused to behave as formerly when we meditated together, ie absolutely quiet and still. Instead she licked my face with dedication and energy and thoroughness, something she's not normally allowed to do. I sat through it. I feel light and delight at being here.
having a 'rest day' today ... as Lorianne described yesterday, we had the '6 days out of 7' at the Zen Center where I lived for three years
our rest day was Saturday when we had the whole day free ... on Sunday we had the afternoon and evening free
this is the first 'planned' rest day for me since beginning the 100 Days commitment ... others have just happened ... discipline is not one of my best attributes ... and that's ok by me
I tried meditating earlier this afternoon but kept falling asleep: afternoons do *not* work for me when it comes to meditation. I'll try again later tonight.
I've never sat with Reg on my *lap*...but this reminds me of a time a nun friend of mine housesat for a laywoman we both know. When the woman called home to see how things were going, my nun friend complained that the cat keep howling whenever she went into the house's meditation room, closed the door, and sat. "Of course," the woman replied. "The cat usually sleeps on my lap while I meditate."
I should add that this woman is a Zen Master in my school, so apparently feline-involved practice is an officially-sanctioned way to attain enlightenment... ;-)
Sat briefly this morning. Hope to do another session this evening.
MB was asking about the communal sit recently. I seem to remember it was agreed to hold it on the last Friday of the month? I am wondering whether this is in fact going to be practicable, given the growth in numbers here (wonderful!) and the fact that we are now definitely spread widely across 2 hemispheres (also wonderful!), not to mention individual schedules ... Or maybe schedule a time and those who can join in?
Since Friday is now Dale's official day off, perhaps we could pick another day?
I also wonder about setting two times during the day, so that all of us spread around the world have an option?
Just thoughts.
I didn't sit this morning, but I DID walk to work (my other goal). I'll do my best to work it in this evening. Busy days right now, but of course, as Dale shrewdly points out, that's when I'll need it. :-)
I don't know about finding a convenient time for everyone... by my casual reckoning the longest stretch of the globe unpopulated by 100-day-ers centers on about New Delhi, so we could shoot for 2:00 am New Delhi time. Or we could start with, I don't know, 4:00 pm GMT and just bump it forward 4 hours every month. I kind of like that idea.
Oh, no, don't skip Friday on my account! It would work fine for the group sit, it would be great, in fact. Friday's a bad day not because it's busy so much as because by that time of the week I'm tired of making myself do things. The group sit would make it easy, though.
i'm just checking in. I'm listening to our concert on radio classique, (very heavy as I suspected). i didn't sit today which feels fine. another three hour session with DG thismorning (after only having finished at midnight last night).plus train blah blah. Doing 30 mins of exercise before the morning sess and spending an evening with my hub before going off again tomorrow are the priorities today. But I'm still happy to be here and looking forward to a 5 week stint in Lyon (or wherever) where I might recover some sense of rhythm.
Welcome qb, and I hope that flu has passed, devon.
I went into a very intense meditation today for about an hour and a half in which I decided to turn the concept of 'massive breakdown,' or 'massive heart attack' inside out, and focussed on 'Massive Healing.'
Pulling all of the divergencies inside into a congruency.
It's the after effects, in a day or a week, when I see if the meditation has been effective. Deep down, where it counts most.
If it has, there will be discernable change. If not, I'll go back in at that intense fight-for-your-life level.
(No, no, there's nothing wrong with me, no severe illnesses, no depression, just feeling the need to yoke together my disparate parts deeply :grins:)
I sat another 10 minute stint in the late afternoon before driving off to meet a friend for shopping & conversation. So if you add the early afternoon's 10 sleepy minutes to the late afternon's 10 "Gotta go soon" minutes, I sat 20 minutes today.
I think tomorrow I want to aim for 20 *continuous* minutes... :-)
